Sherman, TX — AC Women win 3rd straight
Men lose final game

AC Women 83, UT-Tyler 74
The Austin College women’s basketball team won its third straight game 83-74 over the University of Texas – Tyler Saturday afternoon at Hughey gymnasium. The Roos will take the win streak into the American Southwest Conference tournament next Friday in Clinton, MS.

Sophomore post Kristen Davis led the charge for AC, netting 15 points on 4-6 shooting from the floor and 7-8 from the free-throw line. Davis also dished out three assists and recorded two steals.

UT-Tyler come out red-hot shooting 51% from the floor in the first half, but was unable to overcome poor free-throw shooting and turnovers, going into half time down 45-36. AC took advantage shooting 44% from the floor and 78% from the free-throw line.

The Roos used 75% shooting from behind the arc and 80% free-throw shooting for the game to bury the Patriots.

UT-Tyler (8-17, 6-8) was led by Juliane Halverson and LaQuita Patton both with 15 points.

AC used a balanced attack behind Davis with four others notching double figures. Juniors Kayla Smiley (14 pts), and Velencia Johnson (11 pts), sophomore Libby Kellum (12 pts) and freshman Raney Bauer (11 pts) rounded out the double digit scorers for the Roos.

Senior Nelleke Plantinga, playing in her final home game, was the game’s leading rebounder, pulling in 10 boards.

The Roos improve to 18-7 on the season and 12-2 in ASC action going into the tournament.

AC Men 75 UT-Tyler 73
The Roos were unable to come up with a victory in their final home game of the season, falling to UT-Tyler 75-73.

AC sophomore Anthony Holman recorded a game high 23 points, shooting 9-18 from the floor and 4-8 behind the arc.

The Roos took a 40-31 lead by halftime but UT-Tyler used 54% shooting in the second half to fight back, taking a 73-70 lead with two minutes to play. AC tied the game on an Anthony Holman 3 pointer, but fouled with 32 seconds left to play. Brandon Weasby connected on both free-throws to take the lead and the Roos were unable to get a clean look at the basket before time expired.

Weasby was the Patriots leading scorer, notching 17 points for the afternoon.

The Patriots improve to 8-17 on the season and 6-8 in conference action, while the Roos close out the season 20-4 overall and 2-12 in conference action.
