Elms 76, Castleton State 61

CHICOPEE, Ma — Senior forward Deshawn Hawkins (West Hartford, CT) tallied a game-high 17 points as one of four Elms College players to reach double figures and the Blazers jumped out to a 19-point halftime lead en route to a convincing 76-61 win over Castleton State College in Friday night’s North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men’s basketball game at the Maguire Center.

The Blazers ran their winning streak to six games to improve to 12-12 overall, 11-6 NAC. Castleton State fell to Elms College for the second time in five days and saw its record slip to 13-12 overall, 12-5 NAC.

Junior guard Kyle Seyboth (Seekonk, MA) dumped in 14 points, including four 3-pointers for the Blazers, who led 43-24 at intermission.

Senior forward Ernest Hughes (Dorchester, MA) and sophomore guard Kevin Furey (Great Barrington, MA) added 10 points apiece to also reach double figures for the Blazers in the victory.

Castleton State senior forward Sean Manovill (Bomoseen, VT) recorded the game’s only double-double with a team-high 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Elms College will conclude regular season play on Saturday, February 21 when it hosts Johnson State College on “Senior Day.” Game time is slated for 3:00 p.m.
