Belton, Tx. — The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s basketball team took control of the game early in the second half and the Crusaders rolled to a 74-55 win over Schreiner University Thursday night in Belton. The win clinches a berth in the American Southwest Conference Postseason Tournament for the Crusaders and UMHB wins its seventh straight game to improve to 18-6 overall and 10-3 in ASC West Division play. Schreiner drops to 8-16 overall and 1-12 in the ASC West with the loss.
UMHB led 37-31 at halftime after the two teams both shot 41 per cent from the field in the first half. The Crusaders opened the game with a 10-2 run, but the Mountaineers fought back to keep it close. UMHB the opened the second half with a 20-10 run to push the lead to 16 points and Schreiner would not cut it to single digits the rest of the way. The Crusaders out rebounded the Mountaineers 53-31 and held Schreiner to 38 per cent shooting from the field. UMHB hit 43 per cent from the field and went 12-17 from the free-throw line while Schreiner was just 5-10 from the stripe.

UMHB will close out the regular season with a 3:00 PM tip-off at Texas Lutheran Saturday in Seguin. A Crusader win in that game coupled with a Sul Ross State loss to McMurry would give UMHB a share of the ASC West title and the Crusaders would also earn the right to host the ASC Postseason Tournament next weekend. Schreiner will close out the season at home on Saturday with a 3:00 PM start against Concordia.
