Springfield 84, Coast Guard 55

NEW LONDON, CT — Springfield shot 57 percent in the first half including 62 percent from three-point range as the Pride won its fifth straight with an 84-55 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Coast Guard (3-18, 0-11) scored the first seven points of the game before the Pride used a 21-2 spurt which included 19 straight points for a 21-9 lead with 10:36 left in the first half.
Springfield (10-14, 6-5) then scored 22 of the next 32 points and built a 43-19 lead with 3:37 left in the half, the Pride led 54-27 at halftime as they hit eight of 13 from three-point range.
Derek Yvon led the Pride with 21 points while Matt Zerneri and Kyle Marian added 11 points each. Marian had a team-high seven rebounds for Springfield.
Dan Sheppard led Coast Guard with 22 points and 13 rebounds as he recorded his 15th double-double of the season.
The loss was the 13th straight for Coast Guard.
