SC (9-14, 5-5 NEWMAC) ran its winning streak to four games, and ended a seven-game losing streak to the Cougars. Yvon, who scored 11 points, was one of six players to score in double figures. Sophomore forward Joel Aponte scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds, and freshman guard Anthony Pizzo added 12 points and three assists.
For Clark (13-9, 8-3 NEWMAC), sophomore center Tim Dutille paced all scorers with 24 points to go along with six boards, and senior forward Trevor Walker added 21 points and six rebounds.
The Pride led 39-29 at the half, but the Cougars, led by Dutille’s 17 second-half points, climbed steadily back into the game. Clark used a 19-9 run pto open the half and tied the game at 48-48 on a basket by senior forward Brent Kenneway with 14:18 to play. This was the first of six second-half ties.
After an Yvon three-pointer gave SC a 68-64 lead with 5:22 left, Walker hit a lay-up at 3:20 and Dutille converted two free throws to tie the game at 68-68 with 2:34 remaining. Walker’s jumper with :58 to play gave the Cougars their first lead of the game at 70-68. Yvon, who struggled through a 4-for-17 shooting night, responded by nailing the decisive three-pointer with :36 on the clock. SC sophomore guard Jason O’Tash added a pair of free throws with :02 left, and, on the final play, Kenneway missed a three-pointer in front of the Clark bench at the buzzer.
