Cortland State 82, SUNYIT 47

UTICA, N.Y. — Senior Michelle Ciquera and sophomore Kaylin VanDusen each scored 18 points to lead Cortland past host SUNYIT, 82-47. With the win, the Red Dragons (20-3, 13-1 SUNYAC) reach the 20-win mark for the eighth time in school history and the fourth time in Jeannette Yeoman's six years as head coach.

Cortland has won nine in a row and, with two league games remaining in the regular season, is guaranteed no worse than a third place finish in the league standings. The Red Dragons will host a SUNYAC tournament quarterfinal game next Tuesday, Feb. 24, against an opponent to be determined.

Ciquera increased her career scoring total at Cortland to 985 points, leaving her 15 shy of becoming the 11th Red Dragon in the 1,000-point club.

Sophomore Dani Maye scored all 14 of her points in the first half and Ciquera netted 10 points in the opening period as Cortland raced out to a 45-23 lead. The Red Dragons made 8-of-16 three-pointers in the first half, including three by Maye and two by VanDusen, and finished the game 11-of-26 from long range. VanDusen was 4-of-6 from behind the arc.

Cortland led 13-8 with 12:48 left in the half before going on a 10-2 run over the next two minutes. Ciquera finished with six assists, five in the first half, and made 7-of-10 shots from the floor. VanDusen and junior Kristen Egan had four assists apiece. Egan made 4-of-5 shots and finished with nine points. Junior Deirdre Zimmerman also scored nine points.

Jessica Skelton led SUNYIT (4-19, 2-12) with 17 points, six assists and three steals. Krista Hess tallied 11 points and Tosca Maxam finished with eight rebounds and four blocked shots.

Cortland completes the regular season with home games Friday night versus Geneseo and Saturday afternoon against Buffalo State.
