The FDU-Florham Devils beat the Purchase Panthers, 80-67. The Devils improve to 11-12 overall while Purchase drops to 6-13.
The Devils took the lead for good with 10:15 left in the first half when junior forward Jamaal Ford (Secaucus, NJ) made a layup to put the Devils up 15-14.
The Devils got out to a 38-29 halftime lead after shooting 15-for-31 from the floor in the first half.
For FDU, junior center Chris Hendershot (Vernon, NJ) led the way with 18 points. Freshman guard Frank Emslie (Hazlet, NJ) added 16 markers and six rebounds. He was a perfect six-for-six from the foul line while shooting four-for-six from the floor. Ford added 11 points and six rebounds. Sophomore guard Nate Lawrence (Willingboro, NJ) also chipped in 11 points. Junior forward Jeff Hemschoot (Little Silver, NJ) made a game-high four steals and scored nine points.
For Purchase, center Steven Sage led the way with game-highs of 26 points and 12 rebounds. Peter Tambakis added 15 points. Jamel Ien added 12 markers. Marc Pierre grabbed 11 boards and chipped in four points.
The Devils got 18 points from their bench while Purchase got just four from their non-starters. For the night, FDU shot 54.7 percent (29-for-53). Purchase shot just 35.5 percent (27-for-77) including just 5-for-23 on three-pointers.
FDU will host Drew tomorrow for a Freedom Conference game at 8:00 pm.
