Baruch 78, SUNY-Purchase 72

NEW YORK — John Burzo scored 18 points to lead Baruch (15-10) to a 78-72 non-conference victory over the Panthers of S.U.N.Y. - Purchase (6-12) on Sunday afternoon in New York City.

The Panthers led most the game until Jonathan Rosario hit a running jumper at 8:22 to give Baruch the lead (55-53). The lead grew to seven points with 1:33 left.

The Panthers made a comeback to get as close as three points, but Chris Alesi, who finished with 12 points, connected on all eight of his free throws in the final 1:13 to help snub the comeback and clinch the home victory on Senior Day at Baruch College.

Senior center Garry Etienne scored 15 points and Ross Feldsher had a solid performance off the bench knocking down three 3-pointers and two free throws for 11 points.

Akanatunde Henderson-Amare led the Panthers with 28 points.

Baruch will face New York City Tech on Saturday afternoon at the CUNYAC men's basketball tournament hosted by York College. Tip off is scheduled for 2:15 p.m.
