Hauben scored 26 points and Perez finished with a career high 22. Brian Jones and Ryan Mee had 10 apiece.
James Janeczak led NYU with 18 points. Jeff Gilkerson scored 15, all but two coming in the second half or overtime. Michael DeCorso had 14.
Rochester improved to 10-1 in the University Athletic Association, 21-1 overall. The Yellowjackets maintained a one-game lead over Washington (MO) (9-2 UAA, 17-5). The Bears defeated Emory, 86-68, in Atlanta. NYU (7-4, 18-4) saw its six-game winning streak snapped.
The Yellowjackets outscored the Violets, 8-1 in the final minute of the second OT to seal the win after a series of thrilling plays in the closing seconds of regulation and the first overtime.
Hauben followed his own miss to tie it at 59-59 with less than 45 seconds left. NYU ran time off the clock before DeCorso sank his fourth three-pointer of the game with 8.8 seconds left, putting the Violets up, 62-59.
Perez rushed the ball up court and banked in a three-pointer from the top of the circle with 3.4 seconds left.
In the first overtime, Hauben’s layup put Rochester ahead, 66-64. The Violets missed a jumper with less than 15 seconds left. Ryan Mee scrambled for the rebound and got it to Joe Canty who found Perez. He was fouled with 10.7 seconds left. Perez sank the first free throw but missed the second.
Janeczak rushed up court and hit a three-pointer with 1.8 seconds left. After a timeout, Jones tried a baseball pass that sailed past everyone and out of bounds. NYU inbounded under its own basket, but Janeczak‘s jumper hit the rim at the buzzer.
In the second OT, Hauben made a layup and Perez hit a jumper in the lane for a 71-67 lead. After Gilkerson scored for NYU, Hauben scored in the lane for a 73-69 lead. Daniel Falcon made one free throw for NYU (73-70). He missed the second and Canty was fouled on the rebound. Canty sank two with 28.9 seconds left. Canty fouled Janeczak with 23.4 seconds remaining. Janeczak missed both shots. Andy Larkin rebounded and was fouled. He sank two shots. After an NYU miss, Rochester rebounded and passed the ball up court to Larkin who dunked with 6.6 seconds left.
