Whitewater, ranked 7th in the D3hoops.com poll (and first in the West Region by the NCAA) is now 19-4 overall, 10-4 in the WIAC ...River Falls, ranked 25th in the D3hoops.com poll, is now 17-6 overall and 10-4 in the WIAC ... On January 3rd the two teams met where UW-River Falls gave UW-Whitewater their first loss of the season,
81-72 ... Melzer came in to the game leading the WIAC, and third in NCAA III, in scoring with a 27.2 average ... The last time UW-W lost back-to-back games was exactly one year ago, February 12 (71-53 at Stevens Point) and February 15 (77-64 at Eau Claire) .... There were seven lead changes in the second half, and the largest lead by either team was 4 by Whitewater (62-58) at 4:54 ... Whitewater, the top field goal shooting team in Division III at 52%, shot over 50% from the field for the fourteenth time this season ... Melzer’s 36 points ties his season high, which he also got in a win at Stout January 21 ... Melzer’s 16 FT’s made, and 20 attempted, are season highs for any Falcon player ... Helfry’s 15 points is his second highest scoring output of the season, topped only by the 17 he scored in the first game against UW-W ... Whitewater’s Matt Jones’ 22 points is the most he has scored since 24 versus Colorado College November 29.
