Soph Erica Opdahl had 16 points and seven rebounds and freshman Nikki Zappa had 12 points for the Tommies (12-11 overall, 11-9 MIAC), who halted the Knights' nine-game winning streak and ended a five-game skid vs. Carleton. Vel Williams added seven points and seven assists and the Toms made 20-of-24 at the foul line.
St. Thomas clinched the school's 18th consecutive postseason berth. It has a two-game lead over seventh-place Bethel and owns the tie-breaker with its win over first-place Carleton.
Megan Vig had 18 points and Linnea Engel scored 10 for Carleton (21-2, 18-2), which was playing without injured starter Kristi Colbenson. The Knights had 18 turnovers and were outrebounded 32-25.
Carletn remains in a tie for the MIAC lead at 18-2 with two games to play as co-leader St. Ben's lost 72-60 at Gustavus.
The Knights jumped to leads of 9-0 and 20-9, but a 20-8 Tommie run put the hosts ahead 29-28 at halftime. St. Thomas made 10 consecutive baskets in the second half during a 21-3 run that built a 24-point lead.
St. Thomas is now 8-0 this season when it scores 70 points.
