Salve Regina 85, Anna Maria 59

Newport, R.I. — Sophomore guard Matt Coute [So./Somerset MA] scored 31 points to lead Salve Regina University men’s basketball over Anna Maria College, 85-59, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action. The Seahawks sweep the season series over the Amcats.

Coute had 26 of his team’s 48 points by halftime including four of his five threes on the game. Salve Regina never trailed in the contest and held its largest lead (27 points) after a layup by Chris Collier [Jr./Exeter NH] with 9:24 remaining in the second half (71-44). Collier finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.

The Seahawks enjoyed their largest margin of victory on the season. Twelve different Seahawks figured in the scoring. Greg Kawula [Sr./Ridgefield NJ] had a double-dozen, 12 points and 12 rebounds. Salve Regina dominated the boards with twice as many rebounds as Anna Maria (50-24).

Four different Amcats connected from behind the arc. Quincy Nunnally [Fr./Westboro MA] and Casey Lefebvre [Sr./Dudley MA] paced Anna Maria with 15 and 11 points, respectively.

Salve Regina (7-16; 7-8 CCC) next plays on Tuesday when the Seahawks host Connecticut College at 7:00 p.m. Anna Maria (6-16; 3-10 CCC) host Nichols at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
