Even though the Gophers took a 73-67 lead on a dunk by Pierre Jones with :16 left to play, the outcome wasn't decided until the final horn sounded. The Sea Gulls (6-15, 3-9 Capital Athletic Conference) cut their deficit in half on Kyle Harmon's three-point basket with :09 remaining and they got the ball back after Goucher missed two free throws with :07 showing on the clock, but they failed to get a shot off before time expired.
Garrett Smith was the leading scorer and rebounder for the Gophers as he tallied 23 points and grabbed 14 boards. Jones, who accounted for six of Goucher's final nine points, contributed 13 points to the win.
Ray Williams captured scoring honors for the Sea Gulls as he knocked down 23 points.
The two teams were never separated by more than four points during the first half, which ended with Goucher (12-10, 6-6 Capital Athletic Conference) on top, 29-27. The Sea Gulls took their biggest lead of the contest on a Jeff Rothley lay-up 7:48 into the second half that made the score 46-39.
The Gophers caught the Sea Gulls at 50-50 on a basket by Jonathan Garritt with 8:51 left to play and went ahead to stay on their next possession, which culminated with a lay-up by Smith.
By winning their fourth game in a row against Salisbury, the Gophers now enjoy a 13-9 advantage in the all-time series between the two schools.
