Gettysburg 77, Washington College 71

GETTYSBURG, Pa. — Host Gettysburg College used a 21-8 run in the second half to take the lead for good en route to a 77-71 Centennial Conference win over visiting Washington College in men's basketball action this afternoon. The Bullets improved to 13-9 overall and 9-6 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen slipped to 8-14 and 5-10 with the loss.

Gettysburg held Washington scoreless for the first 7:22 of the game, but led by only three points at halftime, 27-24. Washington took its first lead of the game with 15:20 left in the second half on a lay-up by junior guard Buck Howanski that made it 35-34. The lead changed hands five times in the next two minutes and the Shoremen led, 40-39, with 13:16 to go.

The Bullets then went on their pivotal run as Matt Whelan knocked down three three-pointers during the spurt and Gettysburg pulled ahead, 60-48, with 8:04 remaining in the game. The Shoremen cut the lead down to five twice in the final minute of play, but could get no closer as the Bullets held on for the win.

David Glaser led Gettysburg with game highs of 25 points and five assists. He also grabbed seven rebounds and was 12-of-12 at the line. Whelan finished with 19 points in 18 minutes and was four-of-four from beyond the arc. Dami Oloruntoba collected a game-high 12 boards.

Sophomore guard Dustin Abbate scored a team-high 19 points for Washington and drained five three-pointers. Senior forward David Horvath added 18 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore forward Jonathan Webb tallied 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
