Clark 100, Coast Guard 75

Worcester, MA — The Clark University men’s basketball team cruised past Coast Guard 100-75 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest. Clark’s five seniors, who were honored before the game, led the way playing in their last regular season home game. The Cougars led by 15 points at halftime and pushed the lead to 25 points (74-49) with less than 15 minutes to play in the game on a 19-7 run. Clark led by as many 30 points with less than three minutes to go in regulation. The Cougars shot 50.0 percent from the floor and made 10-of-31 long range shots. Senior Dave McNamara (Worcester, MA/Worcester Academy) led four players in double-figures with 24 points and seven rebounds. Classmate Trevor Walker (Milford, MA/Milford) added 20 points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals. He was 4-for-9 from behind the arc. Coast Guard’s sophomore Dan Sheppard (El Cajon, CA/Valhalla) had a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Jason Nelson (Hueytown, AL/Holtville) chipped in 14 points. Clark’s senior Brent Kenneway (Sturbridge, MA/Tantasqua Regional) added 14 points,, five rebounds and four assists and senior James Collins (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) had 13 points (5-6 FG, 1-1 3FG, 2-2 FT), four rebounds and three assists. Senior Matt Phaneuf (Belchertown, MA/Belchertown) rounded out the senior scoring with eight points and added four rebounds and three assists. Coast Guard fell to 3-16 overall and 0-9 in the conference. Clark improved to 13-8 and 8-2 in the league and will travael to Springfield College on Tuesday, February 17 for a 7:30 pm start.
