Catholic 73, St. Mary's (Md.) 61

WASHINGTON — Sophomore Shane Sowden notched his first career double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 boards to help Catholic win its eighth straight in a 73-61 win over St. Mary's in a Capital Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon at the DuFour Center.

The center was 6-of-8 shooting and added two blocks and two steals. Teammate William Morley notched a team-high 19 points as CUA won its sixth in a row over the Seahawks.

St. Mary's (7-14, 5-7 CAC) jumped out to a 14-7 lead before Catholic closed the half, outscoring the Seahawks 38-9, to take a 45-23 lead at the break. The Cardinals shot a blazing 16-of-30 (53%) in the first 20 minutes.

A three-pointer and a bucket inside on back-to-back possessions by Morley gave the Cardinals their biggest lead of the game, 50-25, with 18 minutes to play.

The Seahawks' Joe Farina scored a game-high 24 points on 7-of-14 shooting and 10-of 13 from the free-throw line.

He helped St. Mary's keep it close late in the game, as SMC went on a 14-1 run over the last four minutes to close the contest.

Senior Adam Dickman and sophomore Patrick Satalin had four of the team's six three-pointers as each drained two each.
