In overtime number two, the Storm connected for all six of their free throw attempts including two with fourteen seconds and again with four seconds to go to give them a four point lead. BV would miss a three pointer with time running out, but rebounded the miss and Casey Pelzer connected for three as time expired. The Beavers fell short by a point, but still earned the title when Central upset second place Wartburg on Saturday.
This marks the third consecutive title for the Beavers and coach Brian Van Haaften. The first conference team to do so since Central won four consecutive titles in 1977-1980. BV has won the last four of five IIAC Titles.
Leading scorer in the game was BV’s Eric Wiebers who finished with 31 in the loss. Scott Weber finished with 26 on 16-20 shooting at the free throw line. The Beavers connected on 29-35 attempts at the charity stripe.
Jason Burkhardt led the Storm with 26 points and he was 10-11 from the line.
Buena Vista will host the first round of the Iowa Conference on February 24th in Storm Lake. BVU is 19-4 overall and 12-3 in the conference.
