BROCKPORT WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT
SUNY Brockport women's basketball defeats Plattsburgh, 56-42
BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Senior guard Jessica Welch (Palmyra/Palmyra-Macedon) scored 18 points to lead SUNY Brockport to a 56-42 women's basketball victory versus Plattsburgh Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles now stand 7-7 in SUNYAC play and 8-14 overall, while the Cardinals fell to 6-17 and 2-12 in conference play.
Welch made four of seven from the floor, was three of five in the three point zone, and was seven of eight from the line. Mary Ahrens (Rochester/Gates-Chili) scored 13 points off of the bench and had six defensive rebounds.
Meghan Squires (Johnsonville/ Hoosic Valley) scored 12 points in the win, with eight rebounds, three assists and two steals in her 38 minutes of play.
Erin Hutchinson (Shortsville, NY) scored 14 points for the Cardinals, but committed four turnovers in the contest. Sarah Jensen (Binghamton, NY) had 11 points and five steals, while Rene Klementowski (Scotia, NY) had seven points and eight rebounds. The Cardinals had a total of 25 turnovers to Brockport's 17.
The Golden Eagles led by 13 at the half (30-17), but the Cardinals opened up the second half going on a 11-2 run, closing the gap to within four (34-30). The Golden Eagles shot 36% for the night, while the Cardinals shot 40%, including 12-27 (44%) in the second half.
SUNY Brockport travels to Fredonia Tuesday night for a 6 p.m. game.
