Bowdoin 84, Colby 70

BRUNSWICK, Maine — The Bowdoin College men's basketball team clinched a first-round NESCAC home game with an 84-70 win over rival Colby on Saturday in Brunswick. Fourth-seeded Bowdoin (16-8, 6-3 NESCAC) will host fifth-seeded Bates next Saturday, the 21st, in the first-round of the NESCAC Tournament, while Colby will be involved in a three-way tiebreaker on Saturday night to decided the final seed for the tourney.

Jumpers from seniors Jon Farmer and T.J. McLeod, followed by back-to-back three-pointers from McLeod and Kevin Bradley gave Bowdoin a 10-2 lead just two minutes into the contest. Colby cut the lead to five points on a layup by Pat McGowan moments later, but Bowdoin slowly pulled away from the Mules and after a three-pointer from Sean Walker at the 10-minute mark, led by 14 points, 26-12 and the same margin at intermission, 45-31.

Colby would slice the lead to 11 points midway through the second period on a layup by Nick Farrell, 67-56, but a 13-2 Bowdoin run clinched the game thanks to a pair of three-point bombs from Bradley, who ended the contest with 17 points and six assists. Kyle Petrie filled every stat category, scoring 17 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, making four steals and dishing out three assists. T.J. McLeod led all scorers with 20 points, while Mark Yakavonis pitched in 14 points for the Polar Bears. Colby was led by 18 points from Andrew Jenkins, while Drew Cohen scored 13 points and 8 rebounds. Farrell scored 10 points and had six assists for the Mules.
