DePauw 71, Hendrix 60

Greencastle, Ind. — Hendrix scored the game's first 12 points, but host DePauw scored the next 16 and never trailed again on the way to a 71-60 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win. DePauw improved to 14-8 overall and 7-4 in the SCAC, while Hendrix dropped to 0-21 overall and 0-12 in the conference. With the victory, DePauw clinched a spot in the eight-team SCAC tournament at the end of the month.

Matt Secrease hit a jumper and a three before Brock Carpenter scored on a layup and Secrease buried another three to make give Hendrix a 12-0 lead just 3:34 into the contest.

The Tigers, however, countered as Jon Owens put DePauw on the board at the 16:13 mark. DePauw then knocked down four straight three-pointers over a 1:38 stretch with Alex Stewart hitting three and Joey Hanger one. Todd Capes hit two free throws to cap a 16-0 run over just 2:38 to give DePauw a 16-12 lead. The Tigers later led by as many as 12 at 40-28 on the way to a 41-33 halftime advantage.

Hendrix scored the first basket of the second half to close to within six, but the Tigers scored the next four on Reid Sakel's basket and John Gergely's dunk. Stewart's three with 14:52 left pushed the lead to double digits where it remained the rest of the game.

Four Tigers scored in double figures led by Stewart with 14 and Owens with 11. Hanger and Sakel each scored 10 in the win. Brant Bishop led Hendrix with 14 followed by Justin Jaramillo and Secrease with 10 apiece. DePauw held a commanding 38-27 lead on the boards as Gergely hauled down seven. Jaramillo dished out a game-high six assists for the Warriors, while Bishop had five assists and five steals.
