Washington College 54, Wesley 36

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Host Washington College held visiting Wesley College without a field goal for a stretch of 17:28 spanning both halves en route to a 54-36 non-conference women's basketball win this evening at Cain Athletic Center. The win was the third in a row for the Shorewomen, who improved to 7-14 on the season. The Wolverines dropped to 10-10 with the loss.

Wesley's Tricia Casarotto converted a lay-up with 14:07 to play in the first half to give the Wolverines a 10-8 lead. The Shorewomen then outscored the Wolverines, 23-6, over the rest of the period to grab a 31-16 lead at the intermission. The Wolverines missed their final 13 field goal attempts of the first half and their first eight of the second half. Washington grabbed its biggest lead of the game when junior guard Jeremy Cook (Pattenburg, NJ/North Hunterdon) knocked down a three-pointer with 8:07 left in the contest to make it 49-22.

Washington senior forward Liz Smith was the only player to reach double figures in scoring, finishing with 13 points and nine rebounds. Senior guard Yianna Patronas grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, recorded a game-high six assists, and swiped a game-high six steals, matching her career high. She also scored seven points.

Casarotto led Wesley with seven points and also collected seven rebounds. Keyana Washington pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.

The 36 points scored by Wesley are the fewest allowed by the Shorewomen in a single game since a 90-35 win over Hilbert on January 5, 2002. Washington held the Wolverines to 23.6% shooting from the field in the game and forced 22 Wesley turnovers. The Shorewomen shot 28.1% from the field.

The three-game win streak is the first for the Shorewomen since they finished the 2000-01 season with three consecutive victories.
