Mount St. Mary 89, Centenary 71

Newburgh, NY — In less than three seasons at Mount Saint Mary College, senior guard Brendan Twomey (New Windsor, NY) has become the all-time leading scorer in MSMC men’s basketball history with 1,417 career points in a Blue Knights’ uniform. Twomey eclipsed Tom Fuller’s (Middletown, NY) four-year mark of 1,395 points in 100 games from 1993-97 by scoring 23 points during the Mount’s 89-71 win over Centenary College in Newburgh, NY.

“Personally, setting the scoring record was a very nice accomplishment, but it was made that much more special being able to pass such a great player as Tom Fuller,” Twomey said.

With the win, the Blue Knights improve to 16-6 on the year and remain in second place in the Skyline Conference with a league mark of 11-2. Twomey connected on 8-of-16 shots from the floor, including 7-of-14 attempts from long range. He added four assists, three rebounds, and two steals. Brandon Weldon (Elmsford, NY) contributed 15 points and 10 assists off the bench as five Blue Knights reached double digits in scoring. Mike Hoyt (Florida, NY) had 14 points while Roberto King (Hempstead, NY) chipped in with 13 points. Kenny Lane (East Meadow, NY) narrowly missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Mount Saint Mary raced to a 46-32 lead at intermission then built its lead to as many as 34 points in the second half as Twomey connected on a three-pointer – his final points in the game – with 8:22 to play.

Bryan Sherlock (Franklin, NJ) led Centenary with 19 points while Paul Taylor (Carteret, NJ) added 16 points.

In 78 games with Mount Saint Mary, Twomey is averaging 18.2 points per game while shooting 41.9% from behind the arc (291-for-694) and 80.5% from the charity stripe (240-for-298). In addition to scoring the most points in program history, Twomey ranks high on the all-time lists in four separate categories. He is first in made three-pointers (291), third in steals (220), third in made free throws (240), and fourth in assists (252).

Twomey has scored a total of 1,723 points in his collegiate career, which includes 306 points in 24 games as a freshman at Oneonta State in 1999-00.
