Haverford vs. Swarthmore Feb 21
CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Visiting Haverford College rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit and went on to top host Washington College, 94-90, in double overtime tonight in a Centennial Conference game at Cain Athletic Center. The Fords improved to 9-11 overall and 7-7 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen slipped to 8-13 and 5-9 with the loss.CC Haverford Fords

Washington led, 44-35, at halftime, but had trouble scoring over the first 15 minutes of the second and the Fords pulled in front, 61-59, on a lay-up by Mark Gabriel with 4:53 to play ion regulation. Washington regained the lead when sophomore guard Dustin Abbate drained a three-pointer with 38 seconds left to make it 71-70, but Jeremy Bass made one of two free throws with 25 seconds left to send the game into the first overtime.
Johnny Elefterakis hit a three-pointer to give the Fords the lead with 4:53 to play in the first extra period. The Haverford lead was three points, at 83-80, following a lay-up by Jeremy Bass with 48 seconds remaining in the period. Washington senior forward David Horvath the game at 83-83 with a lay-up and free throw with 27 seconds left. Haverford turned the ball over with one second left in the period and the game went into a second overtime.
Haverford got on the board first again in the second OT as Raymond Brown converted one-of-two free throws with 4:38 left to make it 84-83. With 2:33 left, Brown made a lay-up that pushed the lead to five at 91-86. Washington sophomore guard Kyle Stem answered with a lay-up with 1:31 remaining and sophomore forward Jonathan Webb followed with a lay-up of his own with 33 seconds left to trim the lead to 91-90.
After a Haverford turnover, Washington brought the ball up the court and called a timeout, their last one remaining, with 17 seconds to go. Haverford knocked the ball loose on the ensuing possession, but the Shoremen recovered and called a timeout to try to maintain possession of the ball. Since the Shoremen were out of timeouts, they were charged with a technical foul. Bass made both free throws to give the Fords a 93-90 lead with eight seconds left. Stem missed a three-pointer with two seconds to go and Bass was followed on the rebound. He hit one-of-two free throws to provide the final margin.
Bass was two assists shy of a triple double, finishing with game highs of 30 points and 11 rebounds, along with eight assists. Gabriel added 25 points and seven boards. Elefterakis scored 10 points and dished out eight assists, while Jason Polykoff added 11 points and a game-high nine assists.
Webb led Washington in scoring, rebounding, and assists, finishing with 25 points, eight boards, and five helpers. Horvath added 17 points, while Stem tallied 14 and Abbate finished with 13.
