Vossen scored in double figures for her sixth game in a row and 10th time in her last 12 games, as Augsburg improved to 5-17 overall, 5-14 in MIAC play, completing a season sweep of the Oles and breaking a four-game losing streak. St. Olaf falls to 1-21 overall, 1-18 in MIAC play, dropping its 10th game in a row.
St. Olaf used an end-of-half run to build a 10-point advantage and led the Auggies 36-28 at the break. Sarah McBroom (Sr., Mora, Minn.) scored 13 of her game-high 19 points in the first half for the Oles.
But Augsburg turned the game around in the opening seven minutes of the second stanza, using a 12-4 run to tie the game at 40-40 with 13:28 left. Vossen had seven points in the crucial Auggie run. Augsburg later used a 9-0 run to build a nine-point lead, 58-49 with 4:53 left.
Augsburg led 61-50 with 2:32 left, but St. Olaf trimmed the lead to three points, 60-57, with 30 seconds left, taking advantage of a poor Augsburg performance from the charity stripe. Augsburg hit just 5-of-16 (31.3 percent) from the line -- including going 1-of-8 in the final 1:21. However, St. Olaf went just 1-of-4 from the field in the same span, unable to trim the Auggie advantage any closer.
Julie Andert (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) claimed her third double-double of the season and fourth of her career, scoring 11 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. She added four assists and two steals. Selina Theisen (Fr., Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) scored 16 points with eight rebounds for the Auggies, marking the 18th time she has scored in double figures in her 21 games this season. Ashley Sasek (Jr., Waukesha, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) added seven points for the Auggies.
St. Olaf was paced by McBroom, who had 19 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots. Holly Grimsrud (Fr., Zumbrota, Minn.) had 16 poins and five rebounds, and Molly Simon (Jr., Hudson, Wis.) had nine points, five rebounds and three steals. Christina Sampson (Fr., Cambridge, Minn.) had six points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Both teams return to MIAC play on Saturday (2/14) at 1 p.m., with Augsburg hosting St. Mary's at Si Melby Hall and St. Olaf playing at Macalester.
