Catholic 67, Mary Washington 63

WASHINGTON — In a game featuring the top two teams in the Capital Athletic Conference standings, Catholic won its seventh-straight in a 67-63 win over Mary Washington Wednesday night at a packed DuFour Center.

After Patrick Satalin hit one of two free throws to put CUA up 65-63, the Eagle's Evan Fowler was called for traveling in the top of the lane with four seconds in the game to turn the ball back over.

Senior William Morley led the way with a game-high 21 points. He was one of three Cardinals in double figures.

His third trey of the game with 2:52 in the game gave the Cardinals a 60-55 lead but Mary Washington answered right back on the next possession with a three-pointer from Mike Lee.

Trailing 27-22 at the half, MWC opened the period on an 18-4 run, giving the Eagles (15-7, 9-2 CAC) a 42-32 lead early in the period.

Morley's tough layup tied the game for the 11th time at 55-55 with 4:36 to go before CUA would score the next five points.

Jon Hurd made it a one-point game with his third bucket from downtown, pulling MWC within one at 64-63 with just 19 seconds remaining.

Satalin finished with 10 points and five boards while sophomore Matt Tanner contributed 12 points.

Fowler scored just six points but added six assists and three caroms. Hurd led Mary Washington with 19 points and six rebounds.

After shooting just 10-of-29 (34.5%) in the first half, the Cardinals lit it up for 13-of-20 (65.0%) in the second. CUA hit 7-of-22 from beyond to the arc compared to the Eagles' 5-of-12 effort.
