READING, Pa — Senior Terron Buchanon's 17 points led four Lions in double figures as Albright ran past Widener 84-70 Tuesday night in the Bollman Center. The Lions improve to 7-4 in the conference, and pending the outcome of the Lebanon Valley/Moravian game tonight, could find themselves in a three-way tie for first place with Widener and Lebanon Valley. Albright jumped on the Pioneers early, starting the game on a 12-2 run in the first 3:18 of the contest. Widener regained its footing, and kept the Lions close, pulling within five, 23-18, with 9:43 left in the half. After the two teams traded baskets, Albright went on a 14-4 run, capped by a three-point shot from junior Ben Gallagher, to take a 39-24 lead with 2:38 to play until the break. The Lions maintained their double-figure lead the rest of the half, and took a 43-30 lead to the locker room at halftime.
Buchanon had a big half for Albright, scoring 13 points on 6-7 shooting from the field. Widener's Bilal McAfee kept the Pioneers in the game with 17 first-half points.
Albright kept its lead between nine and 13 points for the first six minutes of the second half before Widener made its run. The Pioneers, with leading scorer Casey Stitzel on the bench with four fouls, cut the Albright lead to four, 55-51, with 11:26 to play in the game. Albright responded, scoring seven straight points, five from the foul line, to lead 62-51 with nine minutes left in the game. Widener would get no closer than nine the rest of the way, as Albright finished off its ninth win in ten tries in the Bollman Center this season.
After Buchanon's 17 points, Gallagher finished with 15, sophomore Trevor Deeter had 13, and freshman Matt Kieselowsky had 10 for the Lions. McAfee finished with 23 for Widener, followed by Essien Ford with 12. Albright out-rebounded the Pioneers 46-23 in the game, and outscored Widener 17-7 from the free throw line.
