Fitchburg State 75, Becker 68

Leicester, MA — Jim Prignano scored over 20 points for the fourth time in six contests as visiting Fitchburg State defeated Becker 75-68 in non conference men’s basketball action Monday evening. The game was rescheduled from early December following a snowstorm on December 6th.

The Falcons, who trailed by 21-13 midway through the first half, went on a 28-4 run to open up a lead that eventually extended to 18 points at halftime. Prignano registered 18 points by the break, including connecting on 3 of 5 three-point attempts. He ended the night with 24 points.

Becker (3-17) would not go away easily as they steadily cut into the Falcon lead in the second half. The Hawks got as close as 71-68 with just over a minute and a half remaining before Ja’Qauine Coe and Rashad Cope combined to can four free throws in the waning moments. Cope ended with 14 points and Matthew Costello chipped in with 8 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for Fitchburg (7-12), who snapped a two game losing streak.

The Hawks had four scorers in double digits and were paced by David Bostick who scored 19 points to go along with 8 assists and 7 steals. Jeff Kotkowski and Sam Fernandez also distinguished themselves by pouring in 16 and 15 points respectively.
