Both teams are now 4-4 in the Mass. State Conference. Worcester State is 10-11 overall while Westfield is 10-9.
The Lancers also received strong inside play from sophomore forward Mark Retallic (16 points, six rebounds) and junior forward Tom Sullivan (15 points).
Worcester State led 32-31 at halftime and increased its lead to as many as nine points in the second half. Westfield drew to within four points several times, but the Lancers responded from the foul line where they were 23-for-35, including 19-for-27 in the second half.
The Owls managed to stay close despite committing 21 turnovers and shooting 6-for-28 from 3-point range, including a 1-for-11 first-half performance.
The Lancers pulled off the key road victory despite shooting 0-for-6 from 3-point range and being out-rebounded, 46-33.
Senior guard Allen Murray led the Owls with 26 points. Freshman guards T.J. Baker and Ricky Ogboin scored 11 points apiece but they shot a combined 8-for-30 from the floor.
