Haverford 79, McDaniel 63

Westminster, MD — 54 of Haverford’s 79 points were scored in the paint as the Fords knocked off the McDaniel Green Terror 79-63 at the Gill Center on Saturday.

Johnny Eleferakis (Brooklyn, NY / Poly Prep) plagued the Terror defense assisting nine easy lay-ups that caught the Terror flat-footed throughout the game. McDaniel watched as Mark Gabriel (Austin, TX / Northeast Christian) and Jeremy Bass (Riverdale, NY / Bronx Science) sank lay-up after lay-up on their way to 28 and 26 points, continually crushing any comeback bids for McDaniel.

Gabriel’s 28 points marks a new career high for the junior.

When Haverford failed to sink its initial inside effort, it made good on its second chances scoring 19 points on 14 offensive rebounds. Led by Matt Stein’s (Allentown, PA / Moravian Acad.) 10 rebounds, Haverford outworked McDaniel 38-27 on the glass.

Sam Anstead (New Carrollton, MD / DeMatha) scored 15 points to lead McDaniel offensively. Kyle O’Connor (Columbia, MD / Mt. St. Joe’s) added 13, while Jemar Daniel (Elmont, NY / Elmont Memorial) chipped in with 11 points. All three went five of ten from the field. Alan Hoyt also scored in double figures with 11 points.

McDaniel jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but watched as the Fords quickly erased the deficit. The game was knotted at 18 aside with 5:02 remaining in the first half before Haverford closed the period with an 18-6 run and a 12 point lead. McDaniel was never closer than nine points the rest of the way.

The loss drops the Terror’s record to 6-14, 3-10. Haverford improves to 8-11, 6-7. The Green Terror returns to action on Wednesday when it faces Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.
