After trading baskets during the first 10 minutes of the game, Tech eventually took the lead (15-14) on a jumper by Rayna Zacks. MIT went on to build up a seven point advantage (23-16) at the 7:07 mark. The Cougars’ closed the half by going on a 15-0 run, capped by a three-pointer at the buzzer by Rachel Turkington.
Seven seconds into the second stanza, Turkington buried another trey to give Clark a 34-23 lead. The Engineers were able to come within nine points several times, but the Cougars’ offense was unstoppable as it amassed a 30-point advantage (73-43) with 2:33 remaining in the game.
Rayna Zacks tallied eight points and had a team-high eight rebounds for Tech. Michal Ruchelsman also contributed eight points while Andrea Dooley added seven points and five assists. Samia Mahjub collected seven caroms and snagged three steals.
Ashley Auclair had 14 points and three blocks for Clark while Andrea Comen contributed eight rebounds and five assists. Abby Pineo, Carolyn Towle, and Echo Freeman each tallied eight points coming off the bench for the Cougars.
The next game for MIT will be on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 7:00 p.m. when it travels to NEWMAC foe Wellesley College.
