John Carroll 68, Wilmington 63

University Heights, Ohio — The Wilmington College Quakers out-scored the John Carroll Blue Streaks 39-33 in the second half, but the 11-point halftime deficit was too much to overcome, as the visitors from Wilmington fell 68-63.

Deon Short scored a career-high 27 points on 11-of-17 shooting while pulling down seven rebounds to also lead the team.

Both teams struggled to find the net early in the first half, as the Quakers led by four at 8-4 with 14:15 to play in the first half. JCU responded with an 11-0 run to take a seven point lead. The Quakers cut the deficit to two before the Blue Streaks used a late run to take an 11-point, 35-24 lead into the locker room.

In the second half the Blue Streaks increased their lead to as many as 15, two minutes into the second half, and by 14 with 1:14 to play in the game. The Green and White clawed their way back, and ended the game on a 11-2 run to cut the deficit to five by the final horn.

Short led the way for the Quakers with 27 points while Josh Rohrbacher scored 15, a new career high, and Luke Wolfinbarger chipped in eight. Short pulled down a team-leading seven rebounds while Rohrbacher grabbed six.

John Carroll was led by Michael Grogan who scored 28 points on 4-of-7 shooting from beyond the three-point arc, while David Gibbons and Pete Moran scored 13 and 12 respectively.

With the loss the Quakers fall to 1-20 on the season and 1-13 in the OAC while JCU improves to 16-4 overall and 11-3 in league action.

The next game for the Green and White is on Wednesday, February 11 when the team plays host to the Muskies of Muskingum College with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
