Hampden-Sydney led 32-11 at the break after forcing 15 first half turnovers, while the Generals made just 4-of-22 (18%) field goal attempts. The Generals fared better in the second half, making 11-of-22 (50%), but the Tigers nailed 17-of-30 (57%) and cruised to the 31-point victory.
Freshman guard Kevin Forrester (Wytheville, VA/George Wythe) scored 12 points to pace four Tigers in double-figures. David Willson (Memphis, TN/MUS) and Jason Holman (Amelia, VA/Amelia Co.) each tallied 11 points, while Brandon Randall (Raleigh, NC/Broughton) added ten. Forrester, Randall and Holman each made three steals, while Willson finished with a team-high nine boards as the Tigers owned 17-rebound (41-24) advantage on the glass.
Coleman Lyons scored 14 points and to lead the Generals as the only W&L player to finish in double figures. Lyons scored ten of his 14 from the charity stripe, while Hamill Jones and Matt Lawless each finished with eight points for the Generals.
Overall, Hampden-Sydney shot 48 percent (28-58) from the floor, 31 percent (4-13) from beyond the arc and 73 percent (16-22) from the line. Washington and Lee shot 34 percent (15-44) from the floor, 20 percent (3-15) from three-point range and 71 percent (12-17) from the line.
