Carroll improves to 9-3 in the Midwest Conference, 13-6 overall while Monmouth falls to 2-10 in league play, 6-12 overall.
Sophomore Jason Scheper (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Nathan Drury (Littleton, Colo./Littleton), getting his first start if the season, scored 16 points and junior Ben Hickethier (Adams, Wis./Adams-Friendship) chipped in with 14 points.
Senior Rob Purlee (Mt. Carroll, Ill./Mt. Carroll) led Monmouth with 15 points.
Head coach David Schultz was pleased to get the win despite his team not playing at their best. “We definitely struggled getting into a rhythm both offensively and defensively and you have give Monmouth some credit,” he said. “But, to be able to win despite not playing your best is a sign of a good team. We made just enough plays to get the win.”
Carroll returns to action tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. when they host Lake Forest College.
