University of New England 77, Wentworth 58

BIDDEFORD, Maine — BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Senior Melissa Roller (East Sandwich, Mass.) scored all of her 14 points in the second half, and classmate Missy Stults (Goshen, Ind.) tallied 10 after halftime to help the University of New England get by Wentworth Institute of Technology, 77-58.

The victory was UNE's ninth in its last 11 contests. The Nor'easters stand at 11-7 overall, 9-2 in Commonwealth Coast Conference play. The Leopards dropped their fifth straight to fall to 6-11 overall, 2-8 in conference games.

Trailing 27-18 with 7:33 to play in the first half, Wentworth outscored UNE 13-7 over the remainder of the half to cut the deficit to three (34-31) heading into the locker room.

The Nor'easters gradually pulled away in the early stages of the second half as Stults scored eight points during a 17-6 spurt that gave UNE a 51-37 advantage at the 12:32 mark. UNE's lead crested at 65-45 on a 3-pointer by Roller with 5:06 remaining.

Stults scored a game-high 27 points to go with 12 rebounds for her 43 career double-double. She also helped limit CCC scoring leader Cheyenne Noble (Murrysville, Pa.) to just 11 points, nearly eight below her average.

Roller added eight assists to her 14 points, while senior Amanda Brown (Scarborough, Maine) and sophomore Essie McKinnon (South Portland, Maine) netted 12 points apiece for the Nor'easters, who had 21 assists on 31 field goals and committed just 11 turnovers.

Senior guard Heather Morgan (Manchester, N.H.) was 4 of 6 from 3-point range and finished with 22 points to pace the Leopards. Noble added 12 rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks.

The Nor'easters travel to Milton, Mass. on Saturday for a conference game with Curry College. Wentworth has a road engagement with New England College.
