Brookline, MA: The Newbury College men’s basketball team was defeated by a sound squad from Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Thursday evening by the score 81-47.
MIT jumped out to the early lead and led at the half 37-21. The Engineers used a surge in the second half of play to go up by as many as 34 points. Turnovers were the difference, as MIT forced Newbury to make errant passes leading to fast break points for the Engineers.
MIT was led by offensively by Adam Gibbons (JR, Bridgewater, NJ) who scored 22 points, grabbed four rebounds, dished out three assists, and had a game high four steals. The Engineers also received fine performances from Andrew Tsai (SR, Pittsburgh, PA) and Mike Huhs (JR, Mercer Island, WA). Tsai scored 15 points, dished out five assists, and grabbed four rebounds, while Huhs had 16 points to go along with his three rebounds, two steals, and two assists.
Despite the loss, Newbury received a fine all around performance from Jared King (JR, Cambridge, MA). King scored 19 points, grabbed three rebounds, and had three assists.
Newbury will host the Elms College Blazers on February 10, 2004. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm
