Justus, who started for just the second time this season, scored 18 first-half points on 6-of-8 shooting including 4-of-5 from 3-point range. He finished the night 8-of-10 from the field and 6-for-7 from deep. He also pulled down six rebounds.
Freshman Zach Pickelman continued his push for ASC Freshman of the Year honors with 19 points and six rebounds. Lone senior Carl Thompson had 11 points and six assists. The Cowboys shot 58.5 percent for the game and had a 46-24 halftime advantage.
Schreiner was led by Jarrell Williams’ 18 points and Jarel Hall added 15. The Mountaineers shot just 32.8 percent, including 3-for-22 from behind the arc. The Cowboys’ 27-point win was the largest margin of victory since the 2000 season, when they defeated Schreiner 126-75.
Hardin-Simmons improved to 6-14 overall and 4-5 in ASC West action. The six wins surpasses last season’s win total and the four conference wins are the most since the 2000 season. Schreiner fell to 8-11 overall and 1-8 in conference action.
The Cowboys will host Texas Lutheran, Saturday at 3 p.m.
