CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Junior guard Andrew Gentile converted five-of-six three-point field goal attempts and scored a team-high 20 points as host Washington College rallied for an 89-85 victory over defending Centennial Conference Champion Ursinus College this evening at Cain Athletic Center. The Shoremen, now 5-2 at home this season and winners of three consecutive games, improved to 8-11 overall and 5-7 in conference play with the win. Ursinus slipped to 11-8 and 7-5.CC Ursinus Bears

The Bears came out hot, making seven of their first nine shots from the field and jumping out to a 17-3 lead just 4:03 into the game. The Shoremen chipped away at the lead, closing to within one point at 35-34 with 4:07 left, but Ursinus pushed the lead back to eight by the half and took a 47-39 advantage into the intermission. The Bears shot 58% in the opening half.
The Shoremen opened the second half on a 12-3 run to pull ahead, 54-50, following a pair of free throws by sophomore guard Dustin Abbate with 16:41 to play. The Bears answered with a jumper by Brian McEvily and a three-pointer by Mike McGarvey to pull ahead, 55-54, with 15:57 to go.
Washington tied the score twice over the next 12 minutes, but did not regain the lead until sophomore guard Travis Moore drained a three-pointer with 3:31 left to give the Shoremen the lead for good at 78-76. That bucket was part of a 10-0 by Washington that was capped off by a jumper from sophomore guard Kyle Stem with 2:18 remaining that gave the Shoremen their biggest lead of the game at 83-76. Ursinus twice closed to within three points in the final minutes, but could get no closer as Washington converted six-of-eight free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Three other Shoremen joined Gentile in double figures in scoring. Stem tallied 18 points, three assists, and a team-high three steals, while sophomore forward Jonathan Webb contributed 15 points and team highs of nine rebounds and five assists. Moore finished with 13 points and converted three-of-four three-point field goal attempts in 12 minutes of play.
Ursinus was led by Dennis Stanton, whose 21 points were his second-lowest total of the season. Stanton was 8-for-23 from the floor. Mike McGarvey added 17 points and game highs of 11 assists and five steals. Joe Scholz tallied a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while Matt Fabian scored 15 points and grabbed seven boards.
Ursinus shot 48% from the floor in the game to Washington's 46%, but the Shoremen were 12-of-22 from long range in the win, while the Bears were six-of-24.
