Sophomore forward Scott Findlay (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) added 18 points, a game-high 13 rebounds and a career-high six assists for the Lions, who improve to 11-8 overall and 2-6 in the NJAC. It was the Lions’ 33rd win in their last 34 games against Rutgers-Camden, with the only Raptor win coming in overtime, 95-60, in Camden Jan. 30, 2002, snapping a 30-game TCNJ winning streak in the series.
The Lions also received 17 points from junior center Derek Brown (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains), 14 points from junior guard Kyle Burke (Maywood, NJ/Hackensack) and 10 points from junior guard Mike Snyder (Cranford, NJ/Cranford).
TCNJ took a quick 9-0 lead before the Raptors rallied to cut the gap to 13-12. That was the closest they came, as the Lions went on a 10-2 run on the way to a 39-26 halftime lead. Burke scored 12 of his points and Snyder notched all 10 of his points in the opening half.
The loss dropped the Raptors to 4-15 overall and 2-7 in the NJAC Blue Division as they fell behind TCNJ in the divisional standings.
Senior guard Gene Mergenthal (Sicklerville, NJ/Highland) had another fine night for the Raptors with a team-high 20 points and a career-high 12 assists. He also added seven assists.
Junior guard Tyrone Rucker (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) notched 18 points, including six treys, while freshman guard Tim Genovese (Erial, NJ/Baptist) scored a career-high 17 points on 6-for-12 shooting, including 5-for-8 from three-point range.
Freshman guard Dane Nicholson (Pleasantville, NJ/Holy Spirit) added 14 points for Rutgers-Camden.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Thursday with an 8 p.m. non-conference game at Philadelphia Biblical University. They also play an 8 p.m. game Saturday at the home of NJAC opponent New Jersey City University.
