York (Pa.) 71, Gallaudet 60

WASHINGTON, DC — GU FIELDHOUSE-WASHINGTON, DC-The York College men’s basketball team ended their two-game losing streak with a 71-60 victory over Gallaudet University in Capital Athletic Conference play on Wednesday night in Washington, DC. The Spartans improve to 6-3 in the CAC and 9-10 overall while the Bison fall to 7-13 overall and 1-8 in the league.
The Spartans trailed early as the Bison led 7-4 with 14:32 left in the half. The green and white responded with a 9-0 run to take 13-7 lead. The Bison answered the green and white with a 13-2 run as the hosts led 20-15 with 5:55 remaining in the half. Spartan sophomore Brandon Bushey went on a personal 7-0 run to give the lead back to YCP. The Spartans scored eight of the final 14 points of the half to take a 30-26 lead into the intermission.
The Spartans came flying out of the half, hitting the hosts with an 8-2 spurt to push the lead to 38-28. The Bison eventually trimmed the Spartan lead to four at 49-45 with 9:59 remaining but York quickly pushed the lead back to 13 thanks to a 9-0 run keyed by five points from senior Steve Schmehl. The lead would not fall below seven the rest of the way as the Spartans won their 12th straight against Gallaudet.
Bushey paced the Spartans as he registered a game-high tying 21 points in addition to seven rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot. Schmehl added 13 points, five rebounds, and three assists while sophomore Kenny Fass contributed 11 points, seven rebounds, two steals, and one blocked shot. Junior Ben Seibert pulled down a team-high eight rebounds in addition to his eight points while he also blocked a game-high three shots.
Robert Haney led the Bison with 21 points and eight rebounds, both tying for game-high honors. Stephen DaSilva added 14 points and six rebounds for the Bison.
Neither team lit it up from the free throw line as the Spartans were just 12-for-22 (54.5%) while Gallaudet was a paltry 7-for-17 (41.2%) from the charity stripe. The Spartans ended the game making 50.9% of their attempts from the field while Gallaudet converted 37.7% of their shots from the floor. York finished the game outrebounding the Bison 35-27.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Salisbury University in another CAC contest. Tip time at Wolf Gym is set for 2:00 pm.
