FDU-Florham Men’s Basketball Beats Delaware Valley, 93-84
MADISON, NJ — The FDU-Florham Devils kept the Delaware Valley Aggies at bay, holding on for a 93-84 win. FDU improves to 9-10 overall and 4-5 in the Freedom Conference. Delaware Valley drops to 3-16 overall and 2-7 in the Freedom.
The Devils led by as much as 18 in the first half and held a 16 point advantage at the break. Delaware Valley came out in the second half with an 11-4 run to cut the Devils lead to nine. FDU led by as much as 17 and their lead did not drop below double digits again until Del Val’s Sean Smith made the final score 93-84 with a three-pointer with 10 seconds left in the game.
For FDU, junior forward Jeff Hemschoot (Little Silver, NJ) led the way with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Junior center Chris Hendershot (Vernon, NJ) added 19 markers and five boards. Sophomore forward Matt Cushing (Ocean, NJ) chipped in 16 points and five rebounds. Junior forward Kevin White (Flushing, NY) added 10 points and six rebounds. Sophomore guard Jamaal Ford (Secaucus, NJ) handed out a game-high 10 assists.
For Delaware Valley, Isaiah Pinckney led the way with 23 points. Mike Zupa added 19 markers on 5-for-8 three-point shooting to go with seven rebounds. Mike Thornton chipped in 18 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
The Devils got more than half their points from inside the paint, notching 48 in the key. Delware Valley scored 30 points inside the paint. FDU also got 29 points from their bench while the Aggies, with just nine players on their roster, got just eight from their reserves. FDU held the lead for good from the 16:34 mark in the first half.
FDU will host the Wilkes Colonels for a 3:00 pm Freedom Conference game at 3:00 pm on Saturday,
