Eastern 76, Marywood 72

— ST. DAVIDS, PA - After a tough loss on Monday night, the Eagles came out on fire early and held on against a scrappy Marywood team to secure a four- point home win. Eastern jumped to a quick 17-4 lead on the strength of ten early points from freshman guard Lenny DiMaria (Lincroft, NJ/ Middletown). The Eagles maintained that lead at 20-6 but then hit a dry spell where the Pacers scored the next 9 points. Junior guard Ryan Tozer (Norwood, PA/ Friends Central) stopped the bleeding with his second three-pointer of the game and sophomore guard Chris McMonagle (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) added a quick basket to stretch the Eastern lead back to ten before the Pacers started chip away again with an 8-0 run. The hosts, who never trailed in the game, scored eight of the last eleven points in the half to stretch the advantage back to seven.
The second half saw the Eagles continue with each team putting together runs and giving up runs. With eight and a half minutes remaining in the game McMonagle finished a lay up immediately following back-to-back three pointers by Tozer and sophomore guard Francis Bowe (Pheonixville, PA/ Pius) to stretch the advantage to 16. From that point on the Pacers scored with great precision from the foul line and three-point line and forced a couple critical turnovers to close the lead further. The Eagles struggled at the line late missing nine of fourteen to open the door for the Pacers who cut the lead to three. With fifteen seconds left Bowe hit his second attempt from the stripe to give the Eagles their ultimate margin of victory.
For the game, the Eagles shot 54% from the field and 69 % from beyond the arc, and were led by McMonagle’s 21 points and six rebounds. Tozer continued his hot shooting from distance and scored 20 points on 6-8 three-point shooting. Brent Voorhees (Grandville, MI/ Tri-Unity) earned a double double with 12 points and 10 boards and DiMaria added 12 points. Senior forward Gus Nadelhoffer (Aurora, IL/ Tigard [OR]) pitched in 9 rebounds and six assists. The Eagles (8-11, 6-5) return to action on Saturday when they host Villa Julie at 3:00.
