Allegheny improves to 5-6 in the North Coast Athletic Conference and is 9-11 overall while Hiram falls to 2-9 in the NCAC and 4-16 overall.
The Gators forced 18 Hiram turnovers, converting that into a 22-9 advantage in points off turnovers. Despite that, the Terriers managed to take the lead, 41-40, with 12:55 left in the contest. Allegheny responded with a 25-6 run over the next eight minutes to claim their biggest lead of the game, 65-47.
Sophomore forward Matt Majzlik was efficient, scoring 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting and also had five rebounds. Senior forward Ian Gainor provided a spark off the bench finishing with six points and three assists.
A.J. White led Hiram with 16 points, including four three-pointers, while DaJuan Whiteside had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Carlton Dean added 11 points for the Terriers.
Hiram shot just 36.7 percent (11-30) in the first half, but bounced back in the second half to finish the game shooting 42.4 percent (25-59).
Allegheny returns to action on Saturday, February 7, as they play host to the Denison Big Red in a 4:00 p.m. game at the Wise Center.
