Dominkewicz broke the mark of 35 set by Chris Jones of Rochester Institute of Technology against Rensselaer on January 5, 1996, at the Stevens holiday tournament. Canavan Arena, the Ducks’ home court, opened in 1994.
Stevens (4-17, 3-8 Skyline) seemed in control in the second half when Dominkewicz scored on a jumper with 11:01 left to give the Ducks a 53-38 lead. Centenary (3-15, 2-7 Skyline) outscored Stevens 20-6 over the next nine minutes to pull within one point. Kelvin Kennedy made the first of two free throws for the Cyclones with 2:12 left, but missed the second as the Ducks retained a 59-58 lead.
Dominkewicz was then fouled on a 3-point shot and made all three free throws with 1:36 left to give Stevens a 62-58 lead. Centenary got as close as three points on two occasions, but Dominkewicz answered back for the Ducks both times. He hit a short jumper with 58 seconds left and then added a pair of free throws with 25 seconds left to seal the win. His two free throws with nine seconds to play set the arena scoring record.
Stevens got off to a hot start in the opening minutes as it built leads of 10-2 and 17-4. Dominkewicz scored nine of the 17 – all on 3-pointers. He was 6-for-10 from beyond the arc for the game. At one point in the first half, he scored 10 straight Stevens points beginning with a layup that gave the Ducks a 23-10 lead and concluding with a pair of free throws that made the score 31-17 with 3:48 left.
Junior forward Dan Jordan had 12 points and five rebounds for Stevens before fouling out late in the second half. No other player scored more than five points for the Ducks. Freshman forward Stephen Peters had a game- and season-high 12 rebounds in 38 minutes of action.
Centenary had four players in double figures. Kennedy led the way with 15 points – 11 in the second half. Andre Harris had 11 points while Bryan Sherlock and Steve McNamara added 10 points apiece
Stevens is back in action on Saturday, February 7, with a 1 p.m. Skyline Conference game against Mount St. Vincent.
