Worcester, MA — The Clark University men’s basketball team cruised past New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference (NEMWAC) opponent WPI 85-56 to move into a tie for first-place. After leading by only two at the intermission the Cougars out scored the Engineers 49-22 in the second half to win by 29 and snap the Engineers 11-game winning streak. At the 16:55 mark in the second stanza the Cougars ld 41-38 and went on a 32-16 run to lead by 19 points with 5:49 to play. The Cougars pushed the lead to as many as 26 with less than two minutes to play to secure their 11th win of the season. Clark shot an impressive 62.1 percent from the floor and 55.6 percent from long range in the second half while holding WPI to 17.2 percent. WPI shot 27.1 percent overall and 18.2 percent from long range. The Cougars shot 55.9 percent overall and 43.8 percent from behind the arc. Clark’s senior Dave McNamara (Worcester, MA/Worcester Academy) poured in a game-high 22 points and added five rebounds. WPI’s Mike Presileo (S. Windsor, CT/S. Windsor) led the Engineers with 12 points and 10 rebounds. First-year Ryan Cain (Webster, MA/St. John’s) chipped in 10 points (6-7 FT) for the Engineers who are now 16-3 overall and 6-1 in the conference. Senior Trevor Walker (Milford, MA/Milford) was 8-15 from the floor and 1-3 from long range for 17 points while grabbing five rebounds. Sophomore Tim Dutille (Lebanon, NH/Lebanon) added 14 points and eight rebounds. He was 6-for-10 from the floor while blocking three shots. The Cougars, who improved to 11-6 overall and 6-1 in the conference, fell to WPI earlier in the season 78-75. Clark is back in action when they travel to 10th nationally ranked Trinity College on Thursday, February 5 for a 7:30 pm start..
