Brockport State 82, Geneseo State 74

— BROCKPORT, NY--Senior Charlie Croff (Lockport, NY/Lockport) scored 24 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead SUNY Brockport to a fifth straight victory, 82-74 at home over SUNYAC rival Geneseo Tuesday night.

The Golden Eagles improved to 12-6 overall and 8-1 in SUNYAC, defeating second place Geneseo (7-3 in the league, 14-5 overall). Brockport has won seven of the last eight.

Croff posted his third straight double double and his eighth of the season. He added two steals and made seven of eight shots from the line.

Brandon Mills (Rochester/Spencerport) scored 15 points and had nine rebounds with three steals. Bryan Boswell (Amherst/Sweet Home) scored 11 points with four assists and made all five of his free throws for the Golden Eagles, who shot 91% from the charity stripe on the night (21 for 23, including 13 of 14 in the second half).

All five starters hit in double figures for the Knights. Ben Schwenebraten (LeRoy/LeRoy) had a team-high 23 points with a team-high six boards, and Steven McDonnell (Fairport/Fairport) had 17 points and three steals. Joe Zera (Buffalo/Canisius) scored 11 points with three steals for Geneseo.


Brockport shot 50% for the night, while the Knights were 47% from the floor. With just 3:35 gone in the first half, Geneseo Coach Steve Minton was ejected, receiving two straight technical fouls.

Brockport had a 42-30 first half lead, and was up by 16 (55-39 with 13:35 left in the second stanza). But the Knights went on a 26-14 run to get to within four at 69-65 with 3:15 remaining. It was 77-73 Brockport with 34 seconds left in regulation, but the Golden Eagles made five of six free throws in the final seconds to ice the victory.


Geneseo hosts Cortland Friday (8 p.m.) while Brockport also hosts a SUNYAC rival, Oswego, at 8 p.m. Friday.
