Cabrini vs. Waynesburg Nov 29
WAYNESBURG — Waynesburg came up short in non-conference men’s basketball action against Frostburg State, 72-69, on Monday night at the Marisa Fieldhouse, despite four Yellow Jackets scoring in double figures. The Jackets called three timeouts after gaining possession with 26 seconds remaining, but the Bobcats’ smothering defense forced an off-balanced three-pointer by freshman Marc Lodovico with two seconds left.PrAC Frostburg State Bobcats

Lodovico, who shot 5 of 10 from the field and 3 of 6 from three-point range, attempted the final shot five feet outside the three-point stripe on the left side of the arc. Frostburg’s Ryan Grabill pulled down the rebound and held on as time expired.
Freshman point guard Beau Wilson led Waynesburg with 18 points, followed by Lodovico with 13, junior guard Nick Tomsko with 12 and junior center Phil McLaughlin with 10.
Wilson, who connected on 4 of 9 from three-point range, posted game highs with four assists and three steals.
Grabill paced the Bobcats (10-9) with 23 points, including 5 of 8 from three-point range. Three other Bobcats scored in double figures, as Myro Small tossed in 18 points, and Dan Ryley and Steve Coursey each bucketing 10 points. Ryley’s nine rebounds was a game high.
With a 37-32 rebound advantage, Waynesburg out-rebounded a team for just the third time this season. McLaughlin raked in eight rebounds, while Shawn Coleman grabbed six.
There were 14 lead changes in the game and nine ties, including a 39-39 deadlock at halftime. Frostburg’s largest lead was six points, reached just four minutes into the game, while Waynesburg forged a seven-point margin with 8:17 left in the game when Tomsko buried a three-pointer to give the Jackets their biggest lead at 64-57.
That lead was erased when Small sandwiched two jumpers around a Grabill three-pointer and DeNelle Hale scored with 4:43 remaining to cap off a 9-0 Bobcat run.
McLauhglin scored with 2:09 remaining to put Waynesburg up, 69-68, but a Ryley jumper with 1:07 left gave the Bobcats the lead for good. Freshman Jeff Nero missed the front end of a one-and-one with 39 seconds left, before the Jackets had to foul down the stretch.
Waynesburg (6-13) returns to action for its final non-conference tilt of the season when it travels to Mount Aloysius on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
