Ben Van Thorre became Macalester's leading all-time scorer when he tallied 22 points to lead the Scots (13-6, 12-2 MIAC) to a 71-60 MIAC win Monday (Feb. 2) over visiting Carleton (12-7, 9-5 MIAC). Van Thorre now has 1,554 career points, breaking the old mark of 1,540 set by Patrick Russell last season. The two-time all-conference forward also grabbed 14 rebounds to help the Scots enjoy a 39-29 rebounding advantage. Macalester scored the game?s first nine points and never trailed.
The Scots have now won eight straight and 12 out of 13 to remain a game behind first-place Gustavus. Macalester plays its next game Wednesday (Feb. 4) at Gustavus.
Van Thorre was joined in double figures by Erik Jackson with 15 points, Chris Assel with 14 and Brendan Bosman with 12.
Tanner Schieck had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead Carleton. Kyle Beste scored 15 points to go along with seven boards, whle Dan Forkrud provided 11 points, five blocked shots and four steals.
