LEXINGTON, Va. — W&L WOMENÕS BASKETBALL FALLS TO ROANOKE, 50-47

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Roanoke received points from nine different players as the Maroons downed Washington and Lee, 50-47, in ODAC womenÕs basketball action on Sunday afternoon at the Warner Center.

Down 16-5 with 10:59 left in the first half, Roanoke(7-11, 6-8) used a 15-2 run through the remainder of the first stanza to assume a lead (20-18) it would maintain the remainder of the game.

With 3:11 remaining in the contest, freshman guard Cindy McGraw (Lynchburg, Va./EC Glass) drained a three-pointer to give Roanoke a seven point lead (47-40), its largest of the game.

The Generals (8-11, 5-8) responded as freshman forward Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./The Orme School) hit a jumper on W&LÕs next possession to make it 47-42 with 2:47 remaining.

The Maroons were unable to answer, and a foul shot from Hunsinger and a pair from the charity stripe by senior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) across the next 1:52 pulled the Generals to within 47-45 with 55 seconds remaining.

A bucket from sophomore guard Lindsay Renolds (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring) at the 49-second mark gave the Maroons a 49-45 lead, but Hunsinger kept the Generals within two-points when she hit a jumper with 38 seconds remaining to make it 49-47. Roanoke added another foul shot to the scoreboard compliments of McGraw with 25 seconds remaining , but the Generals were unable to answer as a desperation triple from Michaels missed the mark at the buzzer.

Sophomore guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) led three Generals in double figures with 15 points, while Hunsinger tallied 13 points and 13 rebounds. Junior guard Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./William G. Enloe) rounded out the afternoonÕs double-digit scorers with 11 points, while Michaels grabbed 12 rebounds.

Senior guard Meghan McCue (Covington, Va./Alleghany) led the Maroons with nine points, while McGraw tallied eight points. Junior forward Kayce Smith (Chattanooga, Tenn./The Baylor School) was RoanokeÕs leading rebounder with seven boards.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Randolph-Macon WomanÕs College for a 7:00 p.m. game.
