Millsaps 85, Sewanee 76

Jackson MS — MAJORS EXPLODE AGAINST SEWANEE

The Millsaps Majors rolled past the Sewanee Tigers on Sunday (2/1/04) in the Hangar Dome by a score of 85-76. The Majors point production topped their previous high this year by 20 points. Millsaps improved to 3-15, 2-7, while Sewanee dropped to 7-12, 4-5.

The first half was nip and tuck as both teams played well offensively and battled to a 41-41 stalemate at the break. Millsaps kept up the hot pace in the 2nd stanza and pulled away late for the well-deserved victory. The Majors set season highs in shooting (54.3%), 3-point shooting (52.6%), and free throws attempted and made (25-34).

Millsaps also showed their most balanced attack of the season with 4 men in double figures. Demutrus Caldwell (23), Tyler Warren (a season high 22), Scott Colom (13), and Justin LeBlanc (11) headed up the offensive fireworks. Warren also added 5 rebounds.

Sewanee was led by Jason Smith (27), Eugene Talley (17), and Chris Eddy (14). Smith added 10 boards on his way to a double-double.

Now it’s back to the road as the Majors head up I-55 to tackle Hendrix and Rhodes on Friday and Sunday, respectively. It will be a crucial road trip as Millsaps fights to win a berth in the upcoming SCAC Tournament.
