NEWPORT NEWS, VA — MEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS TO GREENSBORO 78-69

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – CNU’s men’s basketball dropped its second straight game, 78-69 to Greensboro Sunday evening.
CNU trailed at halftime 36-28 on 13-of-35 (37%) shooting from the field, 2-of-7 (29%) on three-point attempts and 0-of-2 from the free throw line. The Pride however shot very well, 14-of-24 (58%) from the floor, 5-of-9 (56%) on three’s and 3-of-3 from the charity stripe.
The second half was much of the same as Greensboro continued its hot shooting going 11-of-22 (50%) from the floor, 3-of-9 (33%) on three’s and 17-of-25 (68%) from the free throw line. CNU finished the second half 14-of-37 (38%) from the field, 1-of-9 (11%) on three’s and 12-of-15 (80%) from the charity stripe.
For the game, GC finished 25-of-46 (54%) from the floor, 8-of-18 (44%) on three’s and 20-of-28 (71%) from the free throw line. For the Captains, CNU finished 27-of-72 (38%) from the field, 3-of-16 (19%) on three’s and 12-of-17 (71%) from the free throw line.
The Pride were led by Dshamal Schoetz with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Marcellus Morgan added 15 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, and Jason Williams added 15 points as well, and Trey Williams finished with 12 points.
Otho Hampton led the Captains with 16 points and nine rebounds, Mark Hepner added 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Blake Brookman and Jeremy Romeo added 12 points each.
GC is now 7-9 overall and 5-1 in the USA South. CNU falls to 10-8 overall and 4-3 in the USA South.
The Captains return to action this Wednesday as they travel to Shenandoah with tip-off set for 7:30 pm.
